get gone

A few of us have plans to ride out to the Swing Station in LaPorte later today for the Upland Breakdown. This marks the first year the seven-year-old music event journeys from its hometown of Centennial, Wyoming, where the festivities started yesterday.

Upland's founders are not without their detractors, many of whom are turned off by their controversial stances that veer into very unfortunately homophobic attacks on the music establishment. (To read more on their criticisms, click the image.)

Today's lineup includes Michael Hurley, Amy Annelle, and half of the Upland founding duo David Lightbourne with the Stop and Listen Boys, who've played these parts before.

Today's gigs start at three and are scheduled to run until nine. If you're riding out, take the Poudre Trail as far west as possible (to Overland Trail Road), then cut north and ride until just before the stoplight at Highway 287. The Swing Station is on the right. Maybe the best part is that the whole six-hour shindig costs just ten bucks.
