de yoanna on npr

Chronicle contributor Michael de Yoanna was on NPR's morning edition today, weighing in on a recent PTSD-related murder in the Springs.

Mike has become a go-to expert of sorts on the face of post-traumatic stress distorder, and for good reason. During his time at the Colorado Springs Independent (where I had the pleasure of working as his editor), Mike broke many a military-related story and won a first-place investigative news award from the Colorado chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for his first extensive feature on PTSD, back in April 2005.

We followed with a more intense look at soldiers who were being harassed and chaptered out of Fort Carson simply for claiming to have the mentally debilitating disorder.

I had the very humbling experience of sitting through some of the interviews we did for the second feature. The stories were undeniably troubling and enough to rob me of at least a couple nights of sleep. Read them here.
