Colorado's Congressional power vacuum

No one can claim that Colorado has an undue amount of influence in Washington: Congress.org recently released its power rankings for representatives and senators. As a state, Colorado ranks 47 out of 50 states in terms of authority-wielding elected officials on the Hill.

Senator Ken Salazar placed 47 out of 100 senators in terms of influence; the state's outgoing senior senator, Wayne Allard, placed 79.

Representative Diana DeGette ranked 66 of the 435 House members, making her the state's most powerful delegation member in the lower chamber. Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave came in 391, which actually makes her the highest-ranking Republican rep from the state, but then again her party colleagues are Tom Tancredo (397) and Doug Lamborn (411).

For more on the rankings, how they're determined and why constituents might care about them, check out the Congress.org Power Rankings page.
