Courtroom carnivores

The environmental group WildEarth Guardians (which is the recently merged product of New Mexico-based Forest Guardians and Boulder-based Sinapu) has announced that it will sue the National Park Service for failing to properly consider wolves for elk management in Rocky Mountain National Park.

The move isn't much of a surprise: the enviros have been threatening the strategy for months, but the recently finalized management plan opened the door to move forward with a lawsuit.

The group could have some have other hard presses ready for wildlife managers. A few years back, Rob Edward, then of Sinapu and now of WildEarth, told me that conservation advocates might also try to push a ballot initiative to reintroduce wolves in Colorado, in spite of the state wildlife division's resistance to the predator recovery.
